I don't know about you, but I'm almost starting to feel a bit guilty about how good we've had it this summer. Last week was just another out of the box with back-to-back surf, perfect St Clair Point (nice to see the sand shifted back into place there!) and dreamy, azure autumn days.
The water was so clear I even managed to capture a few shots from inside a couple of those sneaky tubes in the shorey at St Clair.
If you have a look at the faces of the people in these shots this week, you'll see that stoke – you may even break into a smile yourself. This kind of stoke is infectious and that's one of the best things about our beach culture – lap it up I say!
The end of daylight savings signals that winter is nearing, but for most surfers that just means more swell, bigger waves and plenty of moments of consequence that will etch memories in your mind forever. Sure, the water temp will drop a degree or two, but with the technical advances in the wetsuits available these days there really is no reason not to indulge all year.
This coming week looks like a very small swell on the south coast with a pulse worth checking out up north on Friday. Otherwise, it's a good week to order a new board for winter, plan your winter boat trip or recover from knee surgery like my poor mate, Josh. Hopefully, some swell arrives in time for the South Island Surfing Champs, which start on Good Friday.
If you'd like to help us improve Dunedin Light, then take five minutes to fill in our survey (click on the "Start survey" button over there on the right). We are conducting this survey to improve the content and overall experience of our reports, our website and our Facebook page. To do this we need to learn a little more about you, so please take a few minutes to help us do that. The survey contains 21 questions – 10 about your experience and then another 11 that will give us a better insight into who you are.
We need lots of responses, so please take the time to give us your valuable, anonymous feedback.
See you at the beach ...
