Another crazy week as we plummet into winter. I got to put some tracks in the first major snowfall of the season on Wednesday up on Flagstaff. It's a fun walk or run to the top of the hill and back again. I shot a few photos, but they were culled in favour of some nice green walls on the North Coast (above and below).
The storms chased the mercury back into its burrow, but brought with them some pretty amazing coastal conditions that were enough to strike fresh blue cod off the restaurant menus. The sea, at times, was pretty spectacular with some monster waves roaming offshore. It was pretty wild stuff on most beaches with a few hidden secret spots the only places to craft any shape.
On Thursday night St Clair artist Jason Low and I officially opened our Oceans of Inspiration exhibition, which is on now at Hotel St Clair in The Chart Room. It was my first ever exhibition of prints and it featured my work from Dunedin Light alongside the amazing oil on canvas works by Jason. It's definitely worth checking out, so swing by Hotel St Clair, order a coffee or cocktail and wander around The Chart Room. The opening was a lot of fun with a good turn out and lots of positive comments. Phew ...
The next day I flew to Christchurch for a job over the weekend – I was very apprehensive about leaving the city as the swell was getting better and better. My surf alerts were going crazy while I was away, but luckily I got back in time for the best of it as you can see in some of these shots.
Looks like that swell will hang around for a bit longer and clean up a lot over the next few days so pull a sickie – you're due a bit of you time. Get out there and reconnect with the ocean ... let it's big green walls inspire you the way it does for me and Jason.
See you at the beach ...
