A week ago a shipment arrived in the Dunedin Light office at 1 Dowling St and inside were 21 advance copies of the soon-to-be-launched Dunedin Light Seasons. It was like the arrival of a baby after a gestation period that has spanned more than 15 months, 64 deadlines and about 40,000 frames.
Our new hardcover book features more than 170 of the best images captured from around 260 photo sessions – at least 30 of those shot from the water.
The first flick through its 160-pages is a peculiar moment for us. It's the moment when you get to see each image's performance on the page and when you first get to really experience the skill of the designer in bringing the words, images and white spaces together for the first time.
The book's designer Ian Ferguson is one of the best in the business and he managed to produce the book while travelling around with his family in Bali, Malaysia and Japan during our winter. He was surfing throughout the design process and said the Dunedin surf shots kept him motivated on the project.
There are a lot of people that go into making a book like this become a reality and we'd like to thank every single one of our subscribers and Facebook fans for their support and every surfer who ever appeared in one of our images. This book is for you all and we hope it puts a smile on your face as it has done for us throughout the creative process.
Remember our recent visit by filmmaker Damon Meade and surfers Matt Scorringe, Luke Cederman, Maz Quinn and Bobby Hansen? Well, Damon just sent us a link to this awesome teaser for his upcoming film Under The Weather. Grab a coffee, put your feet up, gather your friends, family, colleagues and pets and prepare to be dazzled.
See you at the beach ...
