December 11th 2012: One hot summer's day

I've never been one for city living, but I really dig our cool little creative hub. I had a job in Christchurch last week and my assistant Janis was using the iPhone to navigate: bad combination. It took me back to my days in Sydney – crawling from light to light in hectic traffic and Janis giving me dreadful directions. I swear we went past the cool new container mall three times and made at least four complete circuits of Riccarton.

We met a lot of our friends up there making their way out of the earthquake chaos with their impressively positive attitudes. I think the new Christchurch will be a city built on positivity and resilience.

It was nice to escape into the mountains above Kaikoura for a few days, but pretty amazing as well to arrive back in Dunedin for a weekend that really heralded the onset of summer.

Sunday truly was one hot summer's day! We visited St Clair, Middles and St Kilda Beaches during the day and each had its own little slice of Pacific Island paradise going on. The salt water pool was packed, the beach was littered with sunseekers and up at St Kilda a mean game of beach volleyball was going down.

Everywhere, everyone had smiles on their faces. Nice.

The day drew to a close as we stumbled across three mates – Taylor Dunn, Henry Alexander and Luke Bishop (above) flipping and spinning into the St Clair sunset off a giant rubber ball buried in the sand. It was a pretty cool way to see the day out.

Thanks and see you at the beach ...
