Firstly, I hope you're not reading this on Christmas Day. If you are it means that you've succumbed to the phone in your pocket or the computer in the room and logged back into the cyber world that Christmas is not about.
Christmas is time for family, happiness, sharing and surfing. And food and beer and wine and good mates. So I hope you are reading this on Boxing Day or even later.
Me, well I just got up super early today, hoped to catch a shot of the big man red-handed to be honest, but he eluded me yet again – just like Aurora Australis for another season. So I got up early to pen you these words and to make sure that Dunedin Light made it to you on time as always at 10:30am on Tuesday.
So here's the drill: it's supposed to be 24°C today with light winds from the northeast (maybe a souwest blast later on), so hit the beach early before the wind gets up. Not much surf, but the water is crystal clear and about as beautiful as it will get. Check out that photo above – that's what you're in for if you're on it early. We often get accused of photoshopping our images, but we just shoot the beaches at the right times. The shot above captures the clarity of the water – with the help of a polarising filter, which eliminates the glare, so it looks like the paradise it truly is.
Below you will see two fun-loving ladies: Erin and Kath. They are actually very skilled machines when it comes to riding mountain bikes for extraordinary distances through impossible country. These Otago girls need your help – they are teaming up to ride the Cape Epic – the greatest mountain bike race on Earth. But they need to raise some funds to get to the startline in Cape Town in March. Just quietly, they could actually win it!
