They say the people of Dunedin are what makes this city such a great one for work and play. That is especially true at this time of year when we get the seasonal influx of students thanks to Otago Polytechnic and the university.
They bring with them an edginess and an energy that breathes new life into the corners of the city. They revitalise the beachside cafés and restaurants and they entertain as they wander around in the grocery stores like it is their first time buying food ... ever.
The noodle aisles are teeming with their fresh faces as they eagerly devise ways to save money on food so they can spend more in the beverage aisle. It's a rite of passage and at its core it's just about having a lot of fun. Making the most of the present and making it last.
We can all do with a little bit of that way of thinking in our lives. Lucky for them their orientation week looked a bit like this:

Saturday: Vodafone Warriors vs Brisbane Broncos
Sunday:Peaky south east swell, all south beaches firing
How good is that as an introduction to Dunedin?
