March 5th 2013: Surprises

If you haven't already checked out Insiders Dunedin then click on this link, and prepare to be surprised. Insiders Dunedin is where locals and visitors get to share their love for this city and share the city's secrets – you know the kind – the hidden bars and funky, back-alley coffee shops. The sneaky low-tide sand bars sheltered from the souwester and the bays that turn half-metre ground swell into overhead wedges.

We were lucky enough to stumble across the launch party in town last week where an eclectic mix of artists, designers and media people were getting excited about celebrating this city's characters and energy. The mood was contagious – it was group consciousness on a positive crusade and it permeated all conversations.

We think everyone can do with a little dose of positive energy from time to time so visit the website and soak in a little of the magic. You may even be moved to share a little gem yourself. Like this city, it's full of surprises.

We were also lucky enough to share some of the Dunedin Light story through Insiders Dunedin. The cool team at Motion Sickness Studio followed me and the assistant (my 7-year-old daughter, Taya) on a photo session to Sandfly Bay. Since it launched our film has had over 2000 views ... you can check it out here.

This week we have a swarm of lows shooting under us and a wee tropical pushing down – should be in place by Saturday for some more North Coast gems like Saturday's.

See you at the beach!
