September 24th 2013: Dunedin needs you

We live in a beautiful city with amazing beaches and an enviable lifestyle all year around so it's easy to sit back and disconnect from the circus of local body politics. And so you should, but once every three years you get your chance to make a difference, by voting for the new council. This is more important than you might first think – these people are in the driving seat of this city's future. More importantly the candidates for 2013 have vastly different visions for our city.

We believe in this city and we can see it has the potential to be a leader among modern cities – one of the great little cities of the world. The only thing that we can see is missing is you. Give Dunedin your time in learning about the candidates and then make sure you cast your vote before noon on Saturday, October 12. It will make a difference.

In between a few surf sessions over the hill and around the corner this week we got a sneak peek at the newly renovated The Esplanade restaurant at St Clair Beach with new owner Katrina (from No7 Balmac). We were impressed with the new pizza oven and Katrina's fidelity to the spirit of the restaurant – it has always been a favourite spot for the surf community and that looks set to step up to a whole new level when it reopens in early October.

The wind is forecast to swing northwest at the end of the week just as the east swell cleans up. Waves on both coasts. We're excited.

See you at the beach ...
