Sometimes it takes an outsider to remind you just how good we have it here in little old NZ. This week my mate Oli Kristevic is visiting all the way from Sydney, Australia. He isn't here to sip chardonnay and work on his tan. He is on a feverish mission to explore mountain bike trails and the coastline of the lower South Island and most Kiwis would be envious of what he has achieved.
It's a nice feeling when he starts to babble excitedly about all the riding he has done around Queenstown and Dunedin, but the most amazing thing he gets excited about is the people. He reckons we're a friendly bunch and loves the passion we have for our outdoor and recreational pursuits.
He was so impressed with Dunedin's trails that he has signed on for this weekend's Urge 3 Peaks Enduro. This event has gone nuts with riders the calibre of Anton Cooper, Justin Leov, Rosara Joseph and Jamie Nicoll all vying for the win in the mostly downhill mountain biking event. Oli's not so shabby on a bike either – it is going to be an exciting event.
If you're in Dunedin for the Friday make sure you check out the Urban Prologue that will run from 6pm until 9pm starting at Tennyson St and finishing in the Octagon by Robbie Burns – it will be great family viewing! More info on the MTB madness here.
Today's going to be the pick on the south coast with another pulse on the north coast at the end of the week. Oh yeah, we love summer ...
See you out there ...
