After 16 years we've had to say goodbye to an old friend – the original Box of Light logo. We've kept the blue, and introduced a cleaner, simpler Box of Light logo that better reflects what this whole photography blog and gallery has evolved into. But the logo redesign wasn't the first thing to change.
Last week, my web designer Blair Hughson, of Core Development, and I were out to lunch. We were discussing how the original Box of Light website had lasted 16 years relatively untouched from its original form. That's outstanding considering how much technology has evolved in that time. We chatted briefly about what a revised version might look like. About 24 hours later he sent me a link to mostly functioning incarnation that I instantly loved. That led to the question about the logo, and so that became my task while he polished the wizardry of the code, and the engine room that drives my weekly photoblog and gallery.
One lunch meeting, less than a dozen emails and maybe two phone calls later, and we have a whole new look and feel to Box of Light. Have a look and let me know what you think. And please share Box of Light with friends who might also like to be a part of my weekly photography.

We let a few things go, added a few others, and I reckon we'll get another 16 years out of this one.

PS Box of Light is powered by two other Dunedin icons as well. The first is Murray Eskdale, of Mint Printing. He does nearly all the printing of my limited edition fine art work.
